The Office of the Attorney General has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against former Minister Aftab Alam.
Alam was previously convicted by the District Court for a brutal incident involving burning a person alive in a brick kiln following a bomb blast. However, the Janakpur High Court recently acquitted him and three others.
According to Supreme Court spokesperson Achyut Kuinkel, the appeal will be officially registered on Sunday and included in the court’s schedule.
The case relates to the bomb blast on Chaitra 27, 2064 BS (April 9, 2008), in Rautahat district, before Nepal’s first Constituent Assembly election, in which injured victims were allegedly burned alive in a brick kiln.
The District Court had sentenced Alam and three others to life imprisonment, but the High Court overturned the conviction.
