Apple iOS 19 to Bring Major Redesign After Years

Apple is preparing to launch iOS 19 with a completely new design, the first major visual change in years. According to leaks, this update will include rounder app icons and new “floating” tabs inside apps. Built-in applications are also expected to adopt a modern look inspired by Apple’s visionOS.

Floating Tab Design Inspired by Apple Vision Pro

Tech insider Jon Prosser shared mockup images of iOS 19 in a recent video on the FrontPageTech YouTube channel. One major change is the Tab View, which now floats above the screen’s bottom edge. This style is similar to how tabs work in visionOS apps and is designed to offer a more attractive and fluid user experience.

Rounder App Icons for a Softer Look

iOS 19 may also bring rounder app icons, a change from the usual square icons with curved corners. These updated icons will not be fully circular like those on Android, but they’ll have a noticeably softer and rounder shape than previous iOS versions. This new look will help apps feel more modern and consistent with the upcoming design language.

New App Designs with Glass-Like Style

Last month, Prosser revealed more mockups showing redesigned apps that reflect a “glassy” style, similar to what users see in Apple Vision Pro. This design is expected to appear across many iOS apps, as Apple continues to unify its visual style across all platforms. The goal is to make the user interface more futuristic and visually appealing.

Past Updates Already Gave Us a Sneak Peek

Some of these design changes have already appeared in earlier updates. For example, the Photos app in iOS 18 introduced the floating tab style. Similarly, the Invites app, launched earlier this year, featured transparent, glass-like elements. These updates show that Apple has slowly started adding the visionOS look to iPhones and iPads.

Final Design May Still Change

While the leaks are exciting, it’s important to remember that some designs are based on older internal versions of iOS 19. As Mark Gurman from Bloomberg mentioned, the final version could still look different when officially released. So, even though the redesign is expected, we should wait for Apple‘s confirmation.

iOS 19 Expected to Be Revealed at WWDC 2025

The full reveal of iOS 19 will happen during WWDC 2025, which starts on June 9. At this event, Apple will also showcase new updates for Mac, iPad, and other Apple devices. As the conference date gets closer, excitement is growing about the new features and design changes coming with iOS 19.

For now, Apple fans can look forward to a sleek new interface and more interactive app experiences in the next iOS update.
