The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has officially opened applications for the position of head coach for the men’s national cricket team. In a statement released on Saturday, CAN announced that interested candidates can apply until February 28.
To be eligible for the role, applicants must have:
- An ECB or Cricket Australia Level 3 coaching certification or an equivalent qualification.
- At least five years of coaching experience.
- A strong understanding of Associate Nations’ cricket structure.
This announcement comes after the departure of Monty Desai, whose two-year tenure ended last month. Under his leadership, Nepal achieved several milestones, including retaining its ODI status, playing in the Asia Cup for the first time, and qualifying for the T20 World Cup after a decade. One of the most remarkable moments under Desai came in June 2024, when Nepal put up a thrilling fight against South Africa, one of the world’s strongest cricket teams. They came agonizingly close to victory but fell short by just one run in a memorable performance.
With Nepal set to compete in major tournaments, CAN now aims to appoint a new coach capable of building on recent progress and taking the team to the next level.
