Australian young cricketer Will Pucovski has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket at the age of 27. He said he made this decision because of repeated head injuries.

Last Injury That Changed Everything

In March 2024, during a Sheffield Shield match, Pucovski was hit by a bouncer from Riley Meredith. After that injury, his health problems became worse, which forced him to think seriously about his future.

“I Will Never Play Cricket Again,” Says Pucovski

Speaking to SEN Radio, Pucovski said, “This year has been very tough. After the head injury, it became hard even to live a normal life. For months, I struggled to walk, I kept sleeping a lot, and I could not help with any housework.”

Doctors Suggested Ending His Career

Pucovski mentioned that a team of doctors advised him to stop playing. “I wanted to decide only after I became free from symptoms, but that never happened,” he said.

Head Injuries Affected His Whole Life

According to Pucovski, the head injuries led to problems like mental health struggles, constant tiredness, headaches, and discomfort in the left side of his body. “When something happens on the left side, I feel dizzy and nauseous,” he shared. “At 27, I had many dreams, but my health ended my cricket career.”

A Promising Career Cut Short

Pucovski played his only Test match for Australia against India at the SCG in 2021. Many believed he would become a future star for Australia. “I dreamed of playing 100 Tests, but my journey ended after just one,” he said emotionally.

Fans Support His Difficult Decision

Pucovski’s retirement made many cricket fans emotional. However, most people believe he made the right decision by choosing his health over continuing his career.
