The UAE job market is heading for major changes, with 40% of core skills in employees expected to transform by 2030, as per the Future of Jobs Report 2025 by the World Economic Forum (WEF). Ranking 11th worldwide in job market disruption, the UAE is set to see 41% of existing skills reshaped, driven by digitalization and climate change initiatives.

The report highlights a strong shift toward technology, predicting that autonomous systems will manage 43% of work tasks in the UAE by 2030—far exceeding the global average of 34%. Employers are focusing on technological literacy, with 87% prioritizing this skill. Other essential skills in demand include artificial intelligence (AI), big data, cybersecurity, leadership, and social influence.

By 2030, 91% of UAE companies expect business transformation to be powered by technologies like AI, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and big data, while 66% see robots and autonomous systems as key players. Emerging tech trends such as advancements in energy systems, quantum computing, biotechnology, and new materials will further shape industries.

To address these changes, UAE companies plan to upskill 28% of their workforce and shift 18% into new roles by 2030. However, challenges like skills gaps (cited by 72% of firms), resistance to change, and talent attraction remain significant barriers.

Regional Perspective

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region offers a brighter job outlook compared to global trends, with 46% of employers expecting better hiring opportunities by 2030. Countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia are leading automation efforts, with 46% of job skills expected to evolve regionally, surpassing the global average of 39%. In Bahrain, only 5% of employers view ageing populations as a challenge, compared to 40% globally.

Global Job Market Trends

Globally, 22% of current jobs will transform by 2030, creating 170 million new roles while displacing 92 million, resulting in a net gain of 78 million jobs. Yet, the skills gap remains a top challenge for 63% of employers worldwide.

Call for Action

The WEF’s report urges UAE professionals to focus on lifelong learning and adaptability. Building technological expertise and leadership skills will be vital to thrive in this rapidly changing job market.
