Acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui recently shared insights into his experiences with fans and the public, highlighting some unexpected and often amusing moments. Despite his widespread recognition, he revealed that security guards sometimes fail to recognize him—even on the sets of his own films.
Early Struggles and Doubts
Speaking at the second edition of the Cinevesture International Film Festival, Nawazuddin reflected on his early struggles in the industry. He recalled how people often questioned whether he was truly an actor. “I used to get frustrated. When I introduced myself as an actor, they would respond with disbelief, saying, ‘You don’t look like one.’”
Even during interviews, he faced comments about his unconventional appearance. Responding to such remarks with wit, he once said, “Bhai, how am I unconventional when crores of Indians look like me? If anything, Hrithik Roshan looks unconventional.”
Being Mistaken for a Bystander
Nawazuddin also recounted an amusing incident from the sets of Talaash, where a security guard stopped him from entering, unaware that he was part of the film. Only after some convincing was he allowed in.
Such instances continue even today. While shooting for Raat Akeli Hai Part 2, he said, “I would be standing right behind director Honey Trehan, and he’d be searching for me. I’d tell him, ‘Sir, I’m right here.’ I enjoy this ability to blend into the crowd—it works to my advantage.”
Dealing with Colourism and Self-Doubt
In a previous interview with News18 Showsha, Nawazuddin opened up about facing color-based bias and harsh judgments about his looks. He admitted that years of such remarks had affected his self-perception. “I don’t know why some people dislike the way we look. Maybe it’s because we are considered ugly. Even I question my appearance when I look in the mirror. I wonder why I chose to enter the film industry with such looks.”
Despite these challenges, Nawazuddin’s journey remains a testament to perseverance, talent, and breaking stereotypes in Bollywood.
