The Bagmati Province government has launched an initiative to create employment opportunities for 500 youths in the IT sector, addressing both skill development and financial barriers. The Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Transport has partnered with the Deposit and Credit Guarantee Fund to provide subsidized, low-interest loans for students pursuing IT training. This program targets students who have completed Grade 12 (+2), offering them a minimum of six months of training in various in-demand IT skills. According to Secretary Birendra Dev Bharti, the initiative aims to empower students passionate about technology but hindered by financial challenges, paving the way for sustainable career paths in the tech industry.
The training program is set to commence in the next fiscal year (2082/083), with the ministry currently focused on selecting training institutions, designing course content, and securing partnerships with universities and employers to ensure job placements upon completion. Secretary Bharti emphasized that the courses will be tailored to meet current market demands, with the goal of employing all 500 trainees after the first cycle. If successful, the ministry plans to expand this model to other sectors, launching additional job-focused training programs to reduce unemployment and cultivate a skilled youth workforce across Bagmati Province.
