Rabi Thapa, the personal secretary of Bagmati Province’s Minister for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Madhu Kumar Shrestha, is suspected to have died by suicide after consuming poison, according to the police.
Thapa was found unconscious at his friend’s apartment in Kalanki on Monday evening. He was rushed to Sahid Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead the same night.
According to Apil Raj Bohora, spokesperson and SP of the Kathmandu District Police, initial investigations suggest that Thapa consumed poison. A bottle of medicine labeled “Selfs” was also recovered from the scene.
Although suicide is suspected, the final confirmation is pending the postmortem report. His body has been sent to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Maharajgunj for an autopsy.
Suicide Note Found
A three-page suicide note was also found with Thapa, an investigating officer revealed. The note reportedly mentions family matters and issues related to cooperatives. It also states that Thapa took his own life because he was being disrespected.
However, authorities are yet to confirm the authenticity of the suicide note. A forensic examination will determine whether it was actually written by Thapa.
Thapa, 36, was originally from Dhading’s Dhunibesi Municipality-9. He was found unconscious at the apartment of his friend, Shiva Kunwar, who is from Dhunibesi-8 and currently lives in Kalanki.
Thapa was taken to Sahid Memorial Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead at 6:38 PM, police said.
