The Bagmati Powerlifting Championship saw an impressive display of strength and determination from athletes across the province. The event, held at the National Sports Council covered hall in Tripureshwar, crowned Sujit Awale and Manukala Rai as the best male and female lifters respectively.

Sujit Awale and Manukala Rai Named Overall Champions

In the Bagmati Powerlifting Championship, Sujit Awale from ROC Fitness Club lifted a total of 742.5 kg with an outstanding GL score of 93.93, securing the overall male champion title. His lifts included 300 kg in squats, 152.5 kg in bench press, and 290 kg in deadlift.

Manukala Rai from TPFC dominated the women’s category, lifting 435.5 kg and achieving a GL score of 82.69. Both champions received cash prizes of NPR 1 lakh each for their exceptional performance.

Young Lifters Also Make Their Mark

In the junior (under-23) category, Akrit Baniya from Paradise Fitness Center stood out with a 617.5 kg total lift and a GL score of 85.53. Among the under-18 competitors, Ankit Yonjan of Fitness Mantra lifted 447.5 kg with a GL score of 66.98 to win his category.

Strong Performances Across Weight Classes

Several lifters impressed in different weight categories:

  • Women: Shilpa Agrawal (U57) – 310 kg, Poonam Chaudhary (U63) – 342.5 kg, Mahima Sigtan (U69) – 325 kg, Albina Rajthala (69+ kg) – 360 kg
  • Men: Himal Mahat (U59) – 477.5 kg, Ankit Shahi (U66) – 542.5 kg, Runesh Shrestha (U74) – 557.5 kg, Bijaya Prajapati (U83) – 625 kg, Prasiddha Shakya (83+ kg) – 692.5 kg

Prominent Gyms and Organizers

Gyms like Lions Gym, Agni Fitness, Paradise Fitness Center, Sweet & Shine, ROC Fitness, and Gym Go Fit participated in the Bagmati Powerlifting Championship, showcasing top talent.

The event was coordinated by Vijay Deula and judged by Buddhi Jung Karki (chief referee), Utsav Adhikari (technical head), and senior referee Sukhdev Karki.

Bagmati Powerlifting Championship: Provincial Support

Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama, present during the opening ceremony, highlighted how events like the Bagmati Powerlifting Championship foster discipline, confidence, and health among youth. He assured government support for similar competitions in the future.

The championship has not only boosted the status of Nepal’s powerlifting sport but also aims to identify and promote new talent at the grassroots level for future national and international recognition.
