Bhat-bhateni Vandalism Causes Over Rs. 8 Million in Damages

On Friday, vandalism at the Bhat-Bhateni Supermarket in Koteshwor, Kathmandu, caused damages exceeding 8 million rupees. According to Bhat-Bhateni’s COO, Panu Paudel, goods worth Rs. 6,488,337 were looted.

During a protest led by a pro-monarchy group, their activists entered the supermarket, vandalized it, and looted items. Additionally, most of the glass panels on the exterior of the supermarket were shattered, and damage was inflicted on the building. The preliminary estimate of the damage is Rs. 1,185,855.

Similarly, showcases and other materials worth Rs. 265,000 were damaged, and Rs. 94,000 from the counters was looted. Nine individuals involved in the looting at Bhat-Bhateni have been arrested today.

The arrested individuals include Ashish Singh from Mithila Municipality-6, Dhalkevar, Dhanusha; Premkumar Mahato from Barathawa Municipality-16, Sarlahi; Ravi Ranjan Kumar from Patna, Hajipur, Bihar, India; and Sushila Kumal from Bidur Municipality-6, Nuwakot.

Additionally, those arrested include Elisha Rai from Dharan, Sunsari; Balkumari Karki from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-32; Nirmala Karki from Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality-8, Sindhupalchok; Chitramaya Basnet from Lampantar, Tinpatan Rural Municipality-7, Sindhuli; and Sushmita Baral from Tinpatan Rural Municipality-16, Sindhuli.

A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested them on Saturday and Sunday.
