Comedian Kunal Kamra has received a major relief from the Bombay High Court. The court has ruled that he cannot be arrested until a chargesheet is filed in the case against him. However, the court refused to cancel the case registered by the Khar police.

Kamra Allowed to Record His Statement in Chennai

In his petition, Kunal Kamra had also requested that his statement be recorded in Chennai instead of Mumbai, claiming a threat to his life in Mumbai. The Bombay High Court accepted this request and directed Khar police to take Kamra’s statement with the help of Chennai police.

No Arrest Until Final Verdict

This decision was made by a two-judge bench consisting of Justice Sarang Kotwal and Justice M.S. Modak. The court made it clear that Kamra cannot be arrested until a final decision is made on his petition. Even if a chargesheet is filed in the meantime, the lower court has been instructed not to take any action on it.

Case Filed Over Controversial Statement

The controversy began when Kunal Kamra allegedly referred to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a “traitor” during one of his stand-up comedy shows—without directly naming him. After a video of this statement went viral, a political uproar followed.

Studio Vandalized, FIR Registered

Members of a Shiv Sena faction reportedly vandalized Habitat Studio in Mumbai, where Kamra’s show took place. Following this incident, Khar police registered a case against the comedian based on his social media posts and comments made during the show.

Interim Protection Continues

Until the next court hearing, the Bombay High Court has granted interim protection to Kunal Kamra. The case continues to draw public attention as it moves forward through the legal process.
