On Asar 17, Nepali Congress (NC) Central Member Binod Chaudhary strongly responded to comments made by leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala during the party’s central committee meeting.
Dispute Over Eligibility
Dr. Koirala had raised concerns on Monday about Chaudhary’s eligibility to become a central committee candidate. According to NC’s party statute, one must have been an active member for at least 10 years to qualify.
He questioned how Chaudhary could become a candidate without meeting that requirement and sought clarification from party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Chaudhary Responds
Chaudhary defended himself by saying, “All the legal and party procedures were followed. The party’s legal department analyzed my background, and both the party and the court approved my eligibility.”
He also accused Koirala’s faction of supporting Hridayesh Tripathi against him in the election. “How can someone who helped defeat the party’s official candidate and supported another from booth to booth claim to lead this party?” Chaudhary asked.
Internal Tensions Continue
Chaudhary also hinted that leaders close to Koirala, such as Lumbini Province NC General Secretary Bikram Khanal, actively campaigned against him.
He expressed that although he supports the new economic vision introduced by President Deuba and General Secretary Gagan Thapa, opposing voices within the party could create internal issues.
