Bologna took a huge step toward the Italian Cup final with a 3-0 victory over Empoli in the first leg of the semifinals on Tuesday. The win brings them closer to their first final appearance since winning the cup in 1974.

Dallinga Shines with Two Goals

Bologna opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Riccardo Orsolini redirected a cross from Jens Odgaard. Italy coach Luciano Spalletti, watching from the stands, will have been impressed with Orsolini, who has now scored in three consecutive games.

Just six minutes later, Thijs Dallinga made it 2-0, skillfully finishing a pass from Dan Ndoye. After halftime, Dallinga struck again, finishing off a counterattack assisted by Ndoye.

Bologna’s Winning Streak Continues

This victory extends Bologna’s winning streak to six matches in all competitions. A spot in the Europa League is awarded to the Italian Cup winner, but Bologna currently sits fourth in Serie A, on track for Champions League qualification.

Empoli’s Tough Challenge

Empoli, currently third from the bottom in Serie A, reached the semifinals after eliminating Juventus in a dramatic penalty shootout. However, they now face an uphill battle in the second leg on April 23-24.

Meanwhile, AC Milan and Inter Milan will face off in the other semifinal on Wednesday.
