Prince Edward Visits Bhaktapur and Tries Traditional Wood Carving
British Prince Edward, who is currently visiting Nepal, toured the Bhaktapur area and even took part in traditional Nepali wood carving.
Using a hammer and chisel, he tried carving decorative patterns on wood for a short time. He did this at the Nawa Durga Complex’s model house, where heritage conservationist and architect Ravindra Puri guided him through the Bhaktapur tour.
Prince Edward also visited the Nepal Vocational Academy in Kamalbinayak, where young trainees were working on wood carvings. He was curious about the process and asked how the patterns were made. One of the young craftsmen demonstrated the technique, after which Prince Edward himself tried using the chisel and hammer to carve a pattern.
Accompanied by his wife Sophie, Prince Edward also explored the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, where he showed great interest in the area’s traditional art and culture.
