Broadcom and TSMC Eye Potential Intel Acquisitions Amid Struggles

Broadcom and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) are both reportedly exploring potential deals to acquire portions of Intel, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.

Broadcom is said to be considering the purchase of Intel’s chip design and marketing division. The company would likely seek a partner for Intel’s manufacturing operations. Meanwhile, TSMC is allegedly interested in taking control of some or all of Intel’s chip production plants, potentially through an investment consortium.

These discussions are still in the early stages, with no formal proposals submitted to Intel yet. TSMC’s interest in Intel is reportedly driven in part by encouragement from the Trump administration, although a White House official noted that the government would likely oppose any deal that would place Intel’s factories under foreign control.

Intel’s ongoing struggles have made it a potential target for competitors in the semiconductor industry. In a related development, it was reported in September that Qualcomm had approached Intel about a possible takeover.
