Canon has launched a new addition to its camera lineup: the PowerShot V1, a compact point-and-shoot camera designed for both photography and videography enthusiasts. This camera is equipped with a 1.4-inch CMOS sensor (18.4 x 12.2mm) and features Canon’s Dual Pixel AF II autofocus technology. Its large sensor, combined with a 16-50mm equivalent zoom lens (f/2.8-4.5), ensures high-quality shots. The PowerShot V1 is built for videographers, offering a fully adjustable rear screen and top-mounted microphones with wind protection. However, it does not include a built-in flash or electronic viewfinder.
Powered by Canon’s DIGIC X processor, the PowerShot V1 can capture still images with a resolution of up to 22.3 megapixels. The camera also boasts an impressive ISO range, reaching up to 32,000 for stills and 25,600 for video, ensuring excellent performance in low light. It excels in videography, capable of recording 4K video at 60fps for over two hours, thanks to its built-in cooling fan. When shooting 4K at 30fps, the camera uses the full width of the sensor, and the footage is oversampled from 5.7K for enhanced quality. Canon Log3 allows for color grading in post-production, making this an ideal choice for serious content creators.
For fast and accurate focusing, the PowerShot V1 uses the same autofocus system as the Canon R6 Mark II, and it can shoot 22.3-megapixel photos at up to 30 frames per second. The camera includes a variety of useful connectivity options, such as USB-C, HDMI, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi, enabling seamless file transfers and webcam functionality. Additional features include a multifunction hot shoe, a three-stop ND filter, and jacks for both microphone and headphone for professional audio control. Expected to launch in Japan in April 2025 at a price of 148,500 yen (around $992), the camera is anticipated to be available in Nepal for approximately NPR 140,000.
