After Nepal lost to Myanmar in the final of the International Women’s Football Tournament on Wednesday, captain Anjila Tumbapo Subba apologized to fans.
She posted on social media, saying she felt sorry for letting supporters down as the team failed to win another final.
“Once again, we reached the final but couldn’t win. As the captain, I want to apologize to all our supporters,” she wrote. “To the 16,000 fans in the stadium and the millions who always support us—we couldn’t deliver the result you wanted.”
Anjila also admitted that her mistake led to Myanmar’s first goal. “Myanmar was a stronger team than us. We played well in the first half, but in the second half, my mistake led to their first goal,” she explained.
She also urged fans to continue supporting the team. “Because of your support, women’s football has gained recognition and opportunities. This motivates us to improve. Instead of criticism, we need more opportunities. We need tournaments like this and a well-structured domestic women’s league.”
Anjila remained hopeful for the future. “In the past year, we have played in three finals. If such tournaments continue, one day we will lift the trophy. All we need is your love, support, and encouragement,” she added.
She also thanked ANFA (All Nepal Football Association), officials, and staff for organizing the tournament and giving the players a chance to compete.
At the same time, she requested fans not to criticize the players, saying everyone gave their best effort. “Regardless of the result, the dedication of all players should be appreciated,” she said.
Similarly, goalkeeper Anjila Rana Magar also expressed her disappointment at missing another gold medal but promised fans that one day, Nepal will win the championship.
Nepal has now lost 13 finals without winning a title, after falling to Myanmar in Wednesday’s final.
