Edinson Cavani, Boca Juniors‘ star striker, will miss the highly anticipated Superclásico against River Plate on Sunday due to a muscle injury. The Uruguayan forward suffered the injury during Wednesday’s training session, forcing him to leave early. After undergoing medical tests, it was confirmed that Cavani had a problem with one of his calves, ruling him out of the match.
Team Struggles With Multiple Injuries
Cavani’s absence adds to the growing list of injuries for Boca, with Ander Herrera also unlikely to recover in time for the clash. Other potential absentees include Milton Giménez, who is hopeful to return, and Kevin Zenón, who also struggled in training on Wednesday.
Gago’s Challenge: Finding a Replacement
This leaves manager Fernando Gago with a tough decision, as he now has to find a replacement for one of Boca’s key players. Miguel Merentiel is the likely candidate to step in for Cavani, but Gago still has to decide on the ideal partner to complete the attacking lineup. In Wednesday’s session, Gago experimented with two different formations in preparation for the monumental match.
