Central Government to Support 'Digital Karnali' Mission

Prithvi Subba Gurung, Minister for Communication and Information Technology, has assured that the central government will support the ‘Digital Karnali’ campaign led by the Karnali Provincial Government. He made this statement while inaugurating the Nepal Television Karnali Province Bureau office in Surkhet on Monday.

Infrastructure Help Promised for Digital Goals

Minister Gurung said that the federal government will assist in building necessary infrastructure to turn Karnali into a digital province. The region faces serious communication challenges—residents still need to climb hills or trees just to make phone calls. Despite criticism, the provincial government is trying to push forward with the ‘Digital Karnali’ project.

Internet Access Still a Major Problem

Even in the capital city Birendranagar, reliable internet services are still not widely available. Gurung noted that without internet in every ward, the goal of a fully digital Karnali cannot be achieved. He stressed the need for internet expansion and tower construction across rural villages.

Federal Commitment to Make the Campaign Effective

Minister Gurung acknowledged that Digital Karnali‘ is a good initiative and promised full cooperation from the federal government to make it successful. He also mentioned plans to establish data centers in each province, which will help strengthen digital services across Nepal.
