Civil servants dissatisfied with certain provisions of the Federal Civil Service Bill staged a two-hour sit-in protest at the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration on Sunday.
Sit-in Details
Various civil servant unions held the protest in front of the ministry’s main gate from 10 AM to 12 noon. The Federal Civil Service Bill has already been passed by the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, and it is scheduled to be tabled in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
Why Are They Protesting?
According to the Trade Union Network, their 11-point demand has not been included in the bill. Key demands include:
- Reduce promotion eligibility from 7 years to 5 years of service.
- Open vacancies for technical positions at the Na Su (non-gazetted) level.
- Provide a one-time reassignment opportunity for staff already adjusted into federal, provincial, and local levels.
Warning of Stronger Action
Uttam Katwal, acting president of the Nepal Civil Servants Union, warned that they would intensify protests starting tomorrow if their concerns are not addressed.
