The FIFA World Cup 2026 final will feature a “Super Bowl” style halftime show. The Super Bowl halftime is a popular music event in the United States.
Interestingly, the responsibility of selecting the performer for this event has been given to the British rock band ‘Coldplay.’
FIFA President Gianni Infantino shared this information on social media. The final of the tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will be held on July 19, 2026, at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Although pre-match performances have become common at events like the UEFA Champions League final, a halftime show has never been presented at the World Cup final.
During regular NFL seasons, halftime is around 15 minutes, but for the Super Bowl, it is extended to 30 minutes to accommodate the show.
FIFA President Infantino mentioned that Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin and band manager Phil Harvey will help organize a group of performers for the 15-minute break in next year’s final.
“I can confirm the first-ever halftime show at the FIFA World Cup final in New York, New Jersey,” Infantino wrote on Instagram. “This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a perfect program for the world’s largest sports event,” he added.
In this year’s Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans, rapper Kendrick Lamar played a leading role, with 133 million viewers across the U.S. watching the performance.
His performance broke a long-standing record set by Michael Jackson in 1993. Artists like Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga have also performed in recent years, and Coldplay took the top spot in 2016.
Coldplay is a British rock band formed in 1996 in London. The band includes lead singer and pianist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, and drummer Will Champion.
