Nepali Congress Protests Lingden’s Allegation Linking Leader’s Son to Bhatbhateni Looting

The Nepali Congress has objected to the allegation that the son of the Deputy General Secretary of the ruling party was involved in the looting at Bhatbhateni in Koteshwor, Kathmandu, on Chaitra 15 (around late March).

On Chaitra 15, monarchists had organized a demonstration at Tinkune. During that event, the demonstrators allegedly looted the Bhatbhateni store in Koteshwor.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Lingden had accused the son of the Deputy General Secretary of the ruling party of being involved in the incident and arrested. Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Baisakh 12 (April 24), Lingden claimed that the Deputy General Secretary’s son had been arrested but released after it was discovered that he was the son of a political leader.

The Nepali Congress has protested against Lingden’s statement. Right after the commencement of the House of Representatives meeting on Sunday, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire expressed his objection.

Ghimire recalled, “The RPP Chairman stated that in the looting incident at Bhatbhateni on Chaitra 15, the son of the Deputy General Secretary of the ruling party was involved. He said there is evidence, there is video footage, and that he was arrested and released.”

Pointing out that the position of Deputy General Secretary exists only within the Nepali Congress among the ruling parties, Ghimire said Lingden’s remarks specifically targeted the Nepali Congress. He further added, “It must be clarified which Deputy General Secretary’s son was carrying a liquor bottle. Otherwise, an apology must be issued and his statement should be expunged from the parliamentary record.”
