Corruption Case Filed Against Journalist Bhatta for Misusing Official Position

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against Tikaprasad Bhatta, an employee at Manthali Urban Development Committee, Ramechhap.

Accused of Misusing Journalist Identity

Bhatta allegedly used his identity as a journalist to threaten government officials and collect illegal payments from various offices. Although employed as a temporary sub-overseer since 2049 BS, he also claimed to be a full-time journalist for Kantipur Daily, receiving salaries from both institutions.

CIAA claims he hid his government role and used his press identity to claim travel and meeting allowances from several public offices. He is also accused of working with Manthali Savings and Credit Cooperative and MidAd Nepal, an advertisement agency.

Illegal Gain of Over Rs 11.5 Million

According to CIAA, Bhatta unlawfully obtained over Rs 11.5 million in illegal benefits since 2049 BS.

Others Also Charged

CIAA has also filed corruption charges against several officials for assisting or facilitating the corruption, including:

  • Amar Bahadur Thapa
  • Narayan Prasad Bhandari
  • Suresh Kumar Wagle
  • Yamlal Belbase (Accounts Head)
  • Suresh Dahal

All were previously associated with the Urban and Building Construction Project.
