India is once again witnessing a spike in COVID-19 cases. Over the past 24 hours, the number of active cases surged past 3,500, with 3,578 people currently infected and undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, 1,818 individuals have recovered.
Just six days ago, the Indian Health Ministry had reported around 1,009 active cases in 15 states. But now, the virus has spread to 26 states, and active cases have tripled.
Kerala remains the worst-hit state, reporting 64 new infections, pushing its total active cases to around 1,400. Maharashtra has 485 active cases, Delhi has 436, Gujarat 320, West Bengal 287, Karnataka 238, Tamil Nadu 199, and Uttar Pradesh 149.
Most patients are recovering at home through home isolation care.
Two deaths have also been confirmed. A 63-year-old man in Kerala and a 24-year-old woman in Karnataka died from the virus. Both had pre-existing health conditions.
