On Tuesday, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell has filed a case against 30 to 40 individuals linked to the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent‘ following controversial remarks made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia. The remarks sparked massive outrage across social media, leading to legal action.
According to officials, the case involves everyone associated with the show from its first to sixth episodes. Notices are being sent out, and those involved will be called in to record their statements.
Screenwriter Varun Grover tweeted about the development. “Every comedian who appeared as a judge on it has been named in the FIR. They should be asked to guess their sentence and if it matches the sentence pronounced by the judge – they should be let go,” he wrote.
The controversy erupted after Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, made offensive comments during a recent episode. His remarks drew sharp criticism from industry bodies, including the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), which condemned the statements as “abhorrent” and “disrespectful” to social and family values.
In a strong statement, AICWA called for a complete ban on the show and legal action against those responsible. They also urged industry professionals to distance themselves from individuals associated with the program, including host Samay Raina and Allahbadia.
Following the backlash, Allahbadia issued a public apology in a video shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account. He admitted that his comments were inappropriate and acknowledged his lack of comedic expertise.
“My comment wasn’t just inappropriate—it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my strength, and I sincerely apologize,” he said.
Allahbadia also recognized his influence on young audiences and promised to be more responsible with his content in the future.
“Family is something I would never intend to disrespect,” he added. He also requested the show’s producers to edit out the controversial parts from the episode.
“I have asked the makers to remove the insensitive sections from the video. All I can do now is say sorry and hope to be forgiven as a human being,” he concluded.
