Kiran Rai: Kathmandu District Court has issued a summons to the current General Secretary of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), Kiran Rai, in a defamation case filed by former ANFA President Ganesh Thapa.
Defamation Case Against Kiran Rai
Ganesh Thapa filed the defamation case against Kiran Rai, claiming that Rai publicly defamed him and attempted to damage his character. Thapa argued that during a television interview, Rai made serious allegations against him, including claims of embezzling 17 million rupees from ANFA.
Court Order and Next Steps
In a statement released on Thursday, Thapa confirmed that Kathmandu District Court had served a summons on Rai, requiring him to appear in court or send a representative within 36 days to respond to the charges. The court document was delivered to ANFA employee Santaram Rai, who acknowledged receiving it on behalf of General Secretary Kiran Rai.
Ganesh Thapa’s Response
Thapa also stated that Rai’s accusations were damaging to his reputation, including claims that Thapa had lost his mental balance. In response to these serious allegations, Thapa filed a complaint with the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau against Rai. Thapa emphasized that if he is found guilty of any wrongdoing, he is willing to accept any legal punishment.
This ongoing legal battle reflects the tense relationship between the former and current leadership of ANFA and is expected to have significant implications for both parties.
