The Digital Nepal Framework, which was introduced as a major government project, has not moved forward as expected. According to the 62nd annual report by the Office of the Auditor General, the framework is not being implemented properly. The report recommends that the government revise it.
No Clear Responsibility or Budget
The report mentioned that there is no clear agency responsible for implementing the framework. Also, the budget allocation is not fixed, and although the plan includes annual updates, no proper revisions have been made yet. The report suggests that the government should fix these issues and prepare a working and clear framework for implementation.
Digital Nepal Was Approved in 2076
The Digital Nepal Framework was approved by the Cabinet on Kartik 5, 2076. It was introduced to transform the economy and achieve prosperity using digital technology.
Huge Budget But No Progress
The National Planning Commission had listed the framework as a transformative project. It estimated a budget of NPR 107.5 billion for implementation. The plan included 80 actions under 8 major areas like expanding the optical fiber network.
Three-Phase Timeline Was Proposed
The implementation was divided into short-term, mid-term, and long-term stages to be completed within five years. However, progress has not matched the original plans.
