Actor Dino Morea and his brother Santino were questioned on Monday by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police in connection with the alleged ₹65 crore Mithi River desilting scam. According to the Free Press Journal, Dino arrived at the EOW office around 11 a.m. for the inquiry.
Dino Morea is under scrutiny following the discovery of multiple phone calls between him, his brother, and the primary accused, Ketan Kadam. Authorities are probing these conversations to understand their significance. Dino’s involvement surfaced during an examination of call logs and financial transactions linked to the accused individuals.
The Mumbai Police’s EOW is questioning Dino to determine whether he had any knowledge or involvement in the dealings between Ketan Kadam and other parties. ANI reported, “Actor Dino Morea is being questioned by the EOW of Mumbai Police regarding the Mithi River cleaning scam. His name emerged due to connections with one of the arrested suspects.”
What is the Mithi River Desilting Scam?
The scam involves alleged financial irregularities related to the rental of silt pusher machines and dredging equipment by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Recently, the EOW arrested Ketan Kadam and Jayesh Joshi, who reportedly acted as middlemen supplying the equipment. They are accused of inflating charges to the BMC while colluding with officials from the civic body’s storm water drains department and executives of Matprop.
Ketan Kadam is the director of Woder India LLP, a Mumbai-based company providing desilting services, while Jayesh Joshi is linked to Virgo Specialties Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of industrial products in Mumbai. So far, 13 people have been booked in connection with this scam.
