Domestic Tourist Dies of Altitude Sickness While Visiting Rara

A domestic tourist visiting Rara, one of Nepal’s major tourist destinations, has passed away. Bhuwan Bishwakarma, a 54-year-old resident of Dhulikhel Municipality-10, Kavre, died this morning due to altitude sickness, according to Chief District Officer Kamal Prasad Pandey.

According to Dr. Nakul Shahi from Mugu District Hospital, Bishwakarma had visited the hospital for a check-up at around 9 PM on Sunday after experiencing breathing difficulties.

After the check-up, the hospital advised him to stay overnight due to low oxygen levels in his body, but he refused, as the hospital stated.

He returned to Salleri after the check-up, but on Monday morning at around 6 AM, his friends brought him back in an ambulance. Dr. Shahi confirmed that he had already passed away upon arrival at the hospital.

According to Dr. Shahi, Bishwakarma was overweight and had chronic asthma. Due to snowfall, cold weather, and low oxygen levels in the high-altitude Himalayan region, he suffered from altitude sickness, leading to a cardiopulmonary arrest that resulted in his death.

Just on Sunday, Bishwakarma had traveled to the Rara Lake area as part of a 25-member group.
