A shocking incident in Hetauda-1, Chaukitol, has revealed that a man killed his sister-in-law while under the influence of drugs.
Rahul Das, a 22-year-old, attacked and killed his 35-year-old elder sister-in-law, Gudiya Das, with a khukuri on Wednesday. The District Police Office of Makwanpur confirmed that Rahul had consumed drugs before committing the crime. His medical examination and initial statement to the police confirmed this.
“He was a drug user and admitted to the murder,” said police spokesperson Inspector Thakur Prasad Sapkota. Rahul also claimed that his family treated him with hatred.
According to police sources, Rahul frequently asked his sister-in-law for money to buy drugs. When she refused and was strict with him, he became furious and attacked her with a khukuri. He also injured his elder brother, 28-year-old Rupesh Das, in the attack.
“Rahul said he felt unsafe around his brother and tried to kill him too,” Inspector Sapkota added. Rupesh is currently receiving treatment at Makwanpur Cooperative Hospital in Hetauda, with serious injuries to his arm.
Among the three Das brothers, the eldest, Roshan Das, has been working in Qatar for the past five months. Gudiya, a mother of three, was killed inside her home when Rahul struck her on the head with a khukuri. After the murder, he covered her body inside the room.
When Gudiya was unreachable until 9 PM on Wednesday, locals informed the police. Upon entering the locked room, police found her dead body. Though the murder was discovered at 9 PM, her body was taken for post-mortem only at 10 AM the next day.
“The family is devastated, so we have not investigated other matters yet. Rahul had not spoken to his father for two years, and his drug use had caused problems in the family,” said Inspector Sapkota.
The Das family runs a fruit business in Hetauda’s wholesale market.
