The Kathmandu District Court has granted the police two more days to keep Durga Prasai and 53 others in custody for further investigation. They are the main accused in the violent Tinkune protest that happened on Chaitra 15.
The protest, organized by pro-monarchy supporters, turned violent and led to the death of two people. There were also incidents of arson and looting during the chaos. Police began detaining people right after the clash and have been investigating since then.
According to police spokesperson Apilraj Bohora, the suspects are being investigated under serious charges like organized crime, public violence, and offenses against the state. Among them, 28 are being investigated specifically for crimes against the state.
On the day of the protest, Prasai reportedly drove his vehicle into a restricted zone, which led to further chaos. He then fled to India but was later arrested and brought back to Kathmandu.
Police plan to complete their investigation within the extended time and submit the report to the government attorney’s office. As per the law, the case must be officially filed in court within 60 days.
