British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, widely recognized for global hits like Shape of You, Perfect, and Shivers, delighted his Indian fans by performing the popular Telugu song Chuttamalle alongside singer Shilpa Rao at his Bengaluru concert.
During his second consecutive show in the city on Sunday night, Sheeran showcased his musical versatility by singing Telugu lyrics from the track, originally featured in the 2024 film Devara, starring Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor. The song is composed by Anirudh Ravichander with lyrics penned by Ramajogayya Sastry.
Sharing a clip from the performance on Instagram, Sheeran praised Rao’s vocals, calling it a “real privilege” to share the stage with her and learn a new language. Rao, known for her soulful renditions in Malang, Besharam Rang, and Bulleya, received widespread appreciation for the unexpected crossover moment.
A fan page dedicated to Sheeran also posted a behind-the-scenes video of the duo rehearsing the duet, captioning it, “Ed’s first Telugu song with @shilparao,” adding to the excitement among fans.
Actress Janhvi Kapoor expressed her surprise and joy at witnessing the collaboration, sharing on her Instagram Stories, “What a crossover to wake up to,” along with a heart emoji. Jr NTR also applauded the performance, saying, “Music has no boundaries and you proved it again, Ed! Hearing you sing Chuttamalle in Telugu is truly special.”
As part of his India leg of the Mathematics Tour, Sheeran kicked off performances in Pune on January 30. Earlier, at his Chennai concert, he teamed up with Indian music legend A R Rahman for a mash-up of Shape Of You and Urvasi Urvasi, which was met with roaring applause from the audience.
The Mathematics Tour in India will wrap up with a final performance in Delhi-NCR on February 15.
