Milan Acharya, accused of killing his father and younger brother in Balkot, Bhaktapur, has surrendered to the police.
The bodies of 56-year-old Kul Prasad Acharya and his 22-year-old son Prabin Acharya were found on Monday morning at their rented residence in Suryabinayak Municipality-2, Balkot. Police had been searching for Milan, the 25-year-old eldest son, suspecting his involvement in the murders.
On Tuesday morning, Milan turned himself in at the Maharajgunj Police Circle and confessed to killing his father and brother. A team from the Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku was dispatched for further interrogation, confirmed SSP Sanu Ram Bhattarai.
“He is in custody and has admitted to committing the crime, as we had suspected,” Bhattarai said.
During questioning, Milan revealed that he acted impulsively due to mental distress caused by tensions in his relationship with his girlfriend. According to a police official at the Maharajgunj Police Circle, Milan’s behavior suggested possible psychological issues.
Kul Prasad Acharya, who had recently come to Bhaktapur from Khotang to obtain a scooter license, was killed along with Prabin. Police said Milan used a dumbbell and a grinding stone to attack them. After the murders, he did not use the scooter parked at the residence but instead booked a motorcycle through a ride-hailing app to travel to Satdobato. From there, he used another ride-hailing service to reach Kalanki, where he discarded his phone’s SIM card.
The Valley Crime Investigation Office was actively searching for him in Kalanki when they received information from Maharajgunj Police Circle about Milan’s surrender.
“Our team will complete the preliminary investigation and forward him to the District Police Office, Bhaktapur, for legal proceedings,” SSP Bhattarai added.
