Eleena Chauhan speaks up against online abuse: Says Trolls Now Begging for Forgiveness

Singer Eleena Chauhan has taken a bold step against the growing trend of online abuse. After being targeted with offensive and vulgar comments on her social media platforms, she has started calling out the abusers by posting screenshots of their messages. As a result, many of them are now apologizing to her publicly.

Singer files cyber complaint after hateful comments flood song posts

The turning point came on Asar 16 (June-end), when Chauhan filed a formal complaint with the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police. She reported 15 individuals who had crossed the line with personal and abusive remarks. This action led to an increase in public apologies from those who had previously insulted her online.

“My name became a joke after divorce” — Eleena shares her struggle

Speaking about the emotional impact of the trolling, Chauhan said, “After my divorce, people started mocking me, making songs and jokes about my personal life. Even my name got turned into a punchline. My parents were worried for my safety, so I decided to seek justice.”

Not against criticism, but abuse must stop

While Chauhan accepts constructive criticism, she firmly believes that personal attacks and vulgar language are unacceptable. “Saying you don’t like my voice is fine, but using filthy language about me or my family is not. I didn’t even read some of the comments—my father did, and he was deeply hurt.”

Online abuse took a toll on her mental health and family life

Eleena Chauhan described how such online attacks have created mental stress for her and her loved ones. “All this for some views and dollars? People don’t think about how their words affect others. That’s why I had to take a stand,” she added. She criticized the current state of social media, saying it has become a platform for character assassination rather than healthy expression.

Prime Minister supports Chauhan’s move against abusers

Chauhan received a boost of confidence when Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli acknowledged her efforts. On Asar 14, he shared photos of Eleena and fellow singer Samikshya Adhikari on Facebook, writing, “Blaming others to look better, criticizing anything and everything—these negative behaviors must be discouraged. I appreciate the way these two singers are publicly exposing online abusers.”

Chauhan calls for legal action and public awareness

At a recent discussion program organized by Press Chautari Nepal with support from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Chauhan warned that any continued use of abusive language against artists would be made public and followed by legal action.

Experts emphasize need for responsible use of social media

Communications expert Bhuwan KC compared social media to fire: “If used wisely, it’s a powerful tool. If misused, it can burn everything down.” He stressed the need for users to be accountable and for systems that discourage the misuse of information.

Journalists and content creators urged to follow ethics

Nepal Journalists Association President Nirmala Sharma added that not all content on social media qualifies as news. She urged users to distinguish between personal and public information and emphasized that misinformation and offensive content should face legal consequences. She also reminded content creators and journalists to follow professional ethics.

Press Chautari vows to support responsible journalism

Press Chautari Nepal Chairperson Ganesh Pandey concluded the discussion by reaffirming the organization’s commitment to ethical journalism and the dissemination of accurate information.
