Australian cricket legend Ellyse Perry has signed with Hampshire for the upcoming 2025 Vitality Blast and Metro Bank One-Day Cup. She will play six T20 matches in July and two 50-over games, with potential to feature in the Vitality Blast Finals Day if Hampshire qualifies.
The 34-year-old is one of the most celebrated players in women’s cricket. Her signing marks a significant moment for Hampshire as they prepare for their first season in the newly introduced Tier One county structure.
Ellyse Perry to Make Hampshire Debut
Ellyse Perry is scheduled to debut for Hampshire on July 4 against The Blaze at Chesterfield. Her first home match at the Utilita Bowl will be on July 6 versus Somerset.
Ellyse Perry recently starred in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), where she played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and finished second in the run-scoring charts with 372 runs at an average of 93. She will join Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred after her Hampshire stint, a team she captained last season.
A Champion’s Pedigree
With an unmatched resume, Perry brings immense experience and talent to the side. Her honors include:
- 6 T20 World Cup titles
- 2 ODI World Cup wins
- 5 Women’s Ashes victories
- Commonwealth Games gold medal
She is also the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker in Women’s Ashes history.
Excitement from Club and Coach
Speaking to Hampshire’s official site, Perry shared her enthusiasm:
“I’m really looking forward to joining the Hampshire team this summer. The club has led the way in women’s cricket for a decade, and I’m excited to be part of it during such an important time for the domestic game in England.”
Hampshire Women’s interim head coach Paul Prichard added:
“Ellyse is one of the world’s top cricketers. She brings incredible quality and experience, and will be a great influence on and off the field. Our young players will gain so much from playing alongside her.”
Perry’s signing comes a day after Prichard took over as interim coach, following Charlotte Edwards’ move to become England Women’s new head coach.
