Everton(The Toffees) has reported a £53 million loss for the 2023-24 season, marking its seventh consecutive year in the red. However, the Premier League club has avoided breaching the league’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

Losses Reduced but Still Considerable

Although The Toffees’ latest financial figures show improvement from the £89.1 million deficit recorded last year, the club’s cumulative losses over the past seven years now total £570 million.

Avoiding Further PSR Penalties

Last season, Everton was penalized with an eight-point deduction for two separate PSR breaches related to the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. In January 2025, the Premier League confirmed that The Toffees and all other clubs were financially compliant for the 2023-24 season, preventing any additional sanctions.

Under PSR regulations, clubs are allowed a maximum loss of £105 million over three years. The Toffees’ reported three-year losses stand at £187 million, but investments in infrastructure, youth development, and women’s football helped them stay within the permitted limits.

Everton Stadium Funding Secured

Everton recently finalized a £350 million financing deal for its new 52,888-capacity stadium, scheduled to open for the 2025-26 season. The funding will help refinance the existing debt on the project.

Changes in Ownership and Management

The club’s financial situation saw a major shift following the Texas-based Friedkin Group’s £400 million takeover in December 2024. This acquisition ended Farhad Moshiri’s eight-year ownership, with his shareholder loans converted into equity.

On the field, David Moyes was reappointed as manager in January 2025, replacing Sean Dyche.

Under Moyes, The Toffees remains unbeaten in nine Premier League matches and currently sits 15th in the table, 17 points clear of the relegation zone.
