Fair in Rihar

A fair is taking place in Rihar, Dang Deukhuri, on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti.

The Bagarbaba religious and tourist site in Rihar has been crowded since last night.

This morning, people bathed in the hot water pond and offered prayers. It is believed that bathing in the salty hot water helps prevent diseases.

Worshiping at the Rihar pond and offering prayers at the Bagarbaba temple is believed to fulfill wishes, bless childless couples with children, and protect them from illnesses.

The Government of Nepal has listed the Bagar Baba religious and tourist site in Lamahi Municipality as one of 100 new destinations to be developed. Rihar is a sacred place for the Awadhi-speaking Yadav and Tharu communities.

The origin of the Bagar baba site is linked to the Dwapar Yug. The name “Rihar” evolved from “Rishi Vihar,” as sages meditated in this area during that time.

Located along the East-West Highway, Rihar hosts a week-long fair during Maghi. It is about 20 kilometers west of Lamahi Bazaar.
