Kanchanpur police have arrested one more person in connection with a fake marriage case, which was allegedly arranged to lure a woman with the promise of an American visa.
The arrested person is 42-year-old Bir Bahadur Ayer, a resident of Amargadhi Municipality-3 in Dadeldhura. He was arrested from Dadeldhura on Saturday, as confirmed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Umesh Raj Joshi of the Kanchanpur District Police Office.
Ayer, who is an engineer by profession, is accused of posing as the father of 32-year-old Bishnu Prasad Mali from Bhageshwar Rural Municipality-4 in Dadeldhura. He allegedly contacted the woman’s family in Kanchanpur over the phone and played a role in facilitating the marriage by claiming to be an engineer with a U.S. visa. However, it was later revealed that he was not an engineer, but rather a driver.
Mali, who had married the 31-year-old woman on 22nd Mangsir, had convinced her by claiming to be an engineer and stating that he had secured an American visa. After their marriage, it was uncovered through TikTok that Mali was already married. Based on the complaint from his first wife, Kanchanpur police arrested Mali and filed a case for bigamy.
Earlier, police had also arrested Janak Bahadur Dhami from Bedkot Municipality-2 in Kanchanpur for his role as an intermediary in the case. Ayer and Dhami are being investigated as part of the ongoing case.
