Family Receives Compensation and Job Promise After Electrocution Death in Gulmi

The family of 40-year-old Jhabindra Ghimire, who died from an electric shock while repairing a utility pole in Dhurkot Rural Municipality-7, has received his body after 36 hours following an agreement on compensation and support.

Death During Work Leads to Protest

Ghimire died on Saturday morning during treatment after being electrocuted. The family refused to take his body, claiming that negligence by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) caused his death. This led to talks involving police, local officials, and NEA representatives.

Compensation Agreement Reached

Following detailed discussions at the District Administration Office in Gulmi, an agreement was reached:

  • The family will receive NPR 5 lakh in compensation.
  • Ghimire’s wife will be given temporary employment at the NEA.
  • Action will be taken against any NEA staff found responsible, according to Arjun Pokharel, head of NEA Gulmi Distribution Center.

Children to Receive Monthly Support

In addition, Dhurkot Rural Municipality has agreed to provide a monthly education allowance of NPR 1,400 for each of Ghimire’s children. They will also receive scholarships up to grade 12.

Locals Demand Safety Improvements

Local residents have urged the Nepal Electricity Authority to take workplace safety more seriously to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
