Fake Canada Job Offer

Mahesh Kumar Chaudhary and his son, Yupesh Kumar Chaudhary, from Biratnagar Metropolitan City-11 were scammed by a group that promised them job opportunities in Canada through a social media advertisement.

The group, operating through social media, tricked the father and son into believing they would help them travel to Canada and collected 6.67 million rupees from them.

After realizing they had been scammed, the victims filed a complaint with the police. The Morang Police arrested five individuals, including an Indian national, involved in the scam.

The group had been asking people to transfer money to various bank accounts, claiming they would get visas. According to the police, the group operated by contacting people through social media platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Viber.

DSP Bed Prakash Joshi of Morang Police stated that the main planner of the scam, 23-year-old Keshav Yadav from Jogbani, India, along with four others from different parts of Nepal, was arrested. The arrested individuals are: 22-year-old Rohit Kumar Paswan from Katari Municipality-3, 30-year-old Buddhanarayan Malah, 25-year-old Bodhraj Rajbanshi from Pathari Shanishchare Municipality-5, and 23-year-old Amit Rai from Biratnagar Metropolitan City-8.

The group used foreign WhatsApp numbers to contact victims, and Yadav, the main planner, would lure Nepali youths by promising them jobs abroad, convincing them to open e-wallets like e-Sewa and Khati. The gang would then take control of these accounts. The police have extended the custody of the suspects to proceed with legal action.
