Nepal’s First Female Judge Sharada Shrestha dies aged 84

Nepal’s first female judge, Sharada Shrestha, has passed away. She died on Friday morning at the Police Hospital in Maharajgunj.

Shrestha was the first female judge in Nepal and the second woman to become a Supreme Court judge. “We have received formal confirmation of her passing,” said Supreme Court spokesperson Nirajan Pandey. “Her family and relatives have informed us that the final rites will be held at Pashupati Aryaghat in the evening.”

She had been unwell and was receiving treatment at the Police Hospital for a few days. After some improvement in the ICU, she was moved to a general ward. However, she passed away while undergoing treatment there, according to spokesperson Pandey.

Shrestha was appointed as a Supreme Court judge on Baisakh 3, 2061 BS, and retired on Jestha 20, 2065 BS. She passed away at the age of 84.
