The Nepali film Laaj Sharanam has officially been approved by the Central Film Censorship Board. With this clearance, the movie is now set to hit theaters as per its scheduled release date.
There was uncertainty about whether the film would be released after a case was filed at the Patan High Court. The issue arose due to concerns that the lead character, played by Sitaram Kattel ‘Dhurmus,’ closely resembled former minister and Congress leader Mohammad Aftab Alam. The petition claimed that the character’s facial features, attire, body structure, hairstyle, expressions, and speaking style were too similar to Alam’s without permission.
Earlier, the court had issued an interim order preventing the film’s promotion on social media and public platforms. However, with the censor board’s approval, the movie can now proceed with its release.
Directed by Kumar Kattel, Laj Sharanam is produced under the JPT Creation banner. The film features an ensemble cast, including Arjun Ghimire, Sagar Lamsal, Harish Niroula, Priyana Acharya, Vijay Baral, Mahesh Tripathi, Arpan Thapa, Renu Yogi, Vijay Lama, Mukund Shrestha, and Mala Limbu.
Initially planned for a trailer release on Wednesday, the promotional activities were halted due to the court order. Now, with the clearance granted, Laaj Sharanam is expected to be released on Fagun 14 as originally planned.
