Fire at Bheri Hospital

A fire broke out at the medical store of Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj, Banke, leading to the suspension of most hospital services on Sunday and Monday (today and tomorrow), except for emergency services.

The hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Nirajan Subedi, said that due to the fire on Saturday, OPD patient check-ups and lab services will remain closed for two days.

The fire started in the medical store located in the OPD building, which stored daily-use medical supplies. The OPD building, medical store, and pharmacy were all damaged.

Dr. Subedi explained that the fire likely started due to an electrical short circuit in the fridge used for storing vaccines. The estimated damage is around 30 to 40 million rupees.

To find out the exact cause of the fire and assess the full damage, a five-member investigation committee has been formed, led by Dr. Dakt Dhital. The committee has been asked to submit its report as soon as possible.

The fire was brought under control with the help of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City’s fire brigade. However, the building is now full of water and scattered burnt and unburnt items.

Dr. Subedi said emergency services and ultrasound are still available, but OPD and OPD lab services will remain closed on Sunday and Monday for cleaning.
