A fire at a ski resort in northwestern Turkey has claimed the lives of 76 people and left more than 50 injured.
The fire broke out in the restaurant on the fourth floor of the 12-story Grand Kartal Hotel located in Kartalkaya, Bolu Province. At the time, there were 234 guests in the hotel.
Some people, in panic, jumped from the hotel during the fire. Two individuals died from the fall, while others succumbed to smoke inhalation.
The fire filled the hotel with smoke, making it difficult for many to find an exit. According to local media, the fire alarm did not sound during the incident.
Turkey’s Interior Minister, Ali Yerlikaya, inspected the site and informed journalists that 76 people had died, and at least 50 others were injured. He expressed the government’s sorrow over the tragedy.
