A passenger bus traveling from the east towards Bardiya was swept away by floodwaters at Binayi Khola in Dumkibas, Eastern Nawalparasi, around 11 PM Thursday night. The bus, carrying 38 passengers including three children, was found about one kilometer downstream.
All passengers were rescued safely, confirmed DSP Madhu Nepal, Information Officer at Nawalpur District Police Office. Police Inspector Rajan Timilsena of Dumkibas Area Police Office reported the recent discovery of the bus.
This area has been facing frequent disruptions since last Poush when an overloaded Indian truck damaged a bridge, forcing traffic to use a diversion route. Heavy rains have repeatedly washed away the diversion, blocking transport. The road from Dumkibas to Daunne is muddy, causing vehicles to get stuck mid-way.
Authorities continue efforts to clear the road and restore traffic flow.
