Floods and Landslides in Sikkim After Continuous Rain Hundreds of Tourists Stranded, Eight Missing

Continuous heavy rainfall since Friday has severely affected life in many parts of Sikkim. Floods and landslides have damaged roads across North Sikkim, disrupting transportation.

According to Mangan police, around 115 tourists in Lachung and 1,350 tourists in Lachen are currently stranded. The Tista River has eroded the highway, making rescue efforts difficult. Additionally, the only suspension bridge connecting Mangan and Chungthang has been damaged by the floods.

Local news outlet Himalayan Mirror reports that eight tourists and a driver went missing in a road accident near Munsithang between Chungthang and Lachen. Search operations are ongoing.

Two people trapped in a landslide have been rescued and admitted to a hospital in Gangtok for treatment. The missing tourists are from Odisha and West Bengal.

The ongoing heavy rains have seriously impacted daily life and tourism in Sikkim.
