Football Transfer Window

In a big step towards better coordination, the football transfer window deadlines across the top five European leagues will now close at the same time. This change will help clubs avoid the problems caused by staggered closing times in past seasons.

New Football Transfer Window Rules

For the 2025 summer, clubs in the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 will have until 7 p.m. UK time (8 p.m. CET / 2 p.m. ET) to complete their transfers on deadline day. This synchronized timing applies to both the summer and winter transfer windows.

Two Windows to Accommodate FIFA Club World Cup

There will be two transfer windows this summer as a special case due to the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup. The first window opens on June 1 and closes on June 10. The main window begins on June 16 in England and July 1 in the other four leagues, running until September 1 (Monday).

Why This Change Matters

In the past, the football transfer window closed at different times in each league:

  • Bundesliga: 5 p.m. UK
  • Serie A: 7 p.m. UK
  • Ligue 1: 10 p.m. UK
  • Premier League: 11 p.m. UK
  • LaLiga: 11:59 p.m. UK

This created a scenario where clubs could lose players to other leagues late in the evening but couldn’t sign replacements. With all leagues now following the same deadline, this confusion is avoided.

How the Deal Sheet Works

The new rules still allow clubs to submit a deal sheet during the final two hours of the football transfer window. A deal sheet confirms a transfer agreement, and clubs then get an extra two hours to complete the paperwork. This smoother process, now unified across leagues, gives teams a fair chance to wrap up late deals.

Looking Ahead

With better planning and a synchronized deadline, the 2025 football transfer window aims to make things fairer and more efficient for clubs across Europe.
