Indian cricket coach and former MP Gautam Gambhir has received a threatening email reportedly sent by ‘ISIS Kashmir’, sparking serious security concerns. The threat comes just two days after a tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 tourists were shot dead.
Gambhir Alerts Police After Threatening Mail
On Wednesday, Gautam Gambhir informed the Delhi Police about the threat and requested full security for himself and his family. This isn’t the first time he has been targeted. Back in 2021, during his time as a BJP Member of Parliament, he received a similar threat. In April 2022, he got two emails on the same day that simply read: “IKillU”.
Strong Reaction to Pahalgam Attack
Gautam Gambhir had earlier reacted strongly to the Pahalgam massacre. He posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), “Prayers for the families of the victims. Those responsible will pay. India will strike back.”
Government on High Alert
On the same day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting. The meeting included key leaders like External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and NSA Ajit Doval.
In response to rising tensions, the Indian government has decided on five strong actions, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan.
Security Tightened for Gambhir and His Family
With the investigation ongoing, the Delhi Police is taking the matter seriously and has already enhanced security around Gambhir’s residence. The authorities are tracking the origin of the email and ensuring full protection for the cricketer-turned-politician.
