A 29-year-old man named Niroj Lama, wanted for stealing gold, was caught after eight months. Lama, from Thulodhunga, Bhotenamlang, Panchpokhari Rural Municipality-7 in Sindhupalchok, was arrested by police on Sunday.
According to Deputy Inspector Bhojraj Shrestha of Beltar Police Station, Lama broke into Padam Rai’s house in Chaudandigadhi Municipality-3, Pataalis Chowk, Udaypur, on Mangsir 30, 2081 (mid-December 2024), stealing 4 tola of gold and Rs 640,000 in cash.
After the incident, local police and community searched for Lama, but he managed to escape. The police finally arrested him early Sunday morning from Panchpokhari Thanpal, Sindhupalchok.
Using CCTV footage, the police identified Lama’s appearance and tracked him down. He is now in custody at the local police office, where investigations continue.
