Google Celebrates Women’s Contributions to Science with International Women’s Day Doodle

When opening Google yesterday, the Google logo above the search bar was decorated with various science-related symbols. These included an atom, a DNA helix, a chemistry test tube, a dinosaur skeleton, and an astronaut symbol. Google created this special Doodle to honor the contributions of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2025.

According to Google, this year’s Doodle celebrated women who made significant contributions to space exploration, archaeology, physics, chemistry, and biology. “These achievements represented just a small part of women’s contributions to science,” Google wrote about the Doodle, adding that “they also helped advance gender equality.”

Google also highlighted that women’s participation in STEM fields remained low and that more efforts were needed to close this gap. As of now, only 29% of the global STEM workforce consists of women. Studies have shown that lower female participation in STEM education has led to a lack of innovation, inclusive development, and gender equality in society. However, Google’s blog post mentioned that the number of women in STEM has been increasing every year, expanding their access to science and technology.
